At Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg, Scholar presents unique story of President Washington's runaway slave.

April 24, 2017

In an event sponsored actionagenda.org at Midtown Scholar Bookstore, Erica Armstrong Dunbar, Professor of Black American Studies and History at the University of Delaware, discussed her new book, "Never Caught: The Washingtons' Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge."  Prof. Dunbar presented an alternative view of the "happy slave" mythology that grew around the George and Martha Washington's slave ownership at Mount Vernon.  Ona Judge's remarkable fifty plus anxious years as a fugitive, seemed all the more relevant in view of the current plight immigrants and refugees face in our Country some 200 years later!
